Maize, soya beans and occasionally sunflower are being planted on a rotational crop production program, where 60% of the land is planted with maize (3600 hectares) and the remaining 2800 hectares with soya beans (Round-up ready) and sunflower. 10% of the maize is GMO maize.

Kanhym has a scientific approach to the management of their grain production. Since 2003, they have been market leaders in South Africa with their use of precision farming (GPS systems on all primary cultivation machinery, soil surveys in terms of pH, phosphate and potassium, crop yields) for the administration of fertilizers, chemicals, plant and harvesting of their crops. The practice of precision farming brought about higher productions, less fuel consumption per hectare and it contributes to an eco-friendly environment.

KanhymÕs sustainable success is also ensured by being on the forefront of the latest technology and cultivars on the market. New cultivars are being planted on a test basis every year and the yields from these cultivars determines whether these cultivars will be planted on a bigger scale during the next production year.

The rotation of crops are used to control undesirable plant diseases and weeds.

The maize and soya beans harvested are being sold at a market related price to the Feed Mills for use in the manufacturing of animal feed. The maize may be sold on the open market from time to time.
